In its latest report, the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility said that four presidential candidates hogged the television limelight, so to speak, in the fourth and fifth weeks of the national campaign.

CMFR said that Manny Villar, Gibo Teodoro, Noynoy Aquino and Joseph Estrada dominated primetime news programs of ABS-CBN, GMA and government-run NBN.

CMFR noted that while the TV news programs devoted much time to the presidential candidates, the vice presidential candidates had to make do with only a little attention.

As expected, prominent reelectionists dominated TV news coverage of the Senate race.

The partylist contenders were given what could arguably be described as “mumo” or “leftovers” in terms of airtime. 1-UTAK led the pack nevertheless thanks to the prominence of its nominee, erstwhile Energy Sec. Angelo Reyes, followed by TUCP, then by Ang Galing Pinoy which nominated Rep. Mikey Arroyo.

CMFR’s report indicates that NBN almost did not provide partylist coverage.
